This Williamsburg home located backing up against the Williamsburg Country Club had water pouring in the basement.
Here the technicians are jack hammering a 5" x 5" trough along the inside basement foundation wall prepping for the Water Trek.
This homeowner in Smithfield, VA had bowing basement walls along two sides of the house at the front and back walls. Note the severe cracking of the walls. A foundation's primary purpose, whether it is block, poured, or stone, is to support the compressive load of the building. However, these building components are generally weak in tensile strength and lateral forces. Thus, concrete and other building materials incorporate reinforcing materials, such as rebar, to increase the lateral load capacity of the foundation wall. Sometimes, these reinforcing methods are not enough and lateral forces can overcome the strength of the wall.
Bowed Basement or Foundation Walls occur as a result of soil loads pushing against the wall. Compounded with depth and other factors and the lateral forces surpass the foundation's original resistance to these loads. Over time, these factors can produce lateral bending and the foundation or basement wall becomes bowed. This condition also produces significant cracking. If left unattended this condition will worsen with time, jeopardizing both the structural integrity and resale value of the property.
Front and back basement wall after wall anchors and the carbon-fiber kevlar sheet straps were installed. The plate anchors were installed at a 6’-0” center with carbon fiber straps between each plate anchor.
To minimize the amount of water from entering this Virginia Beach home, the Curtain Drain system was installed along the front exterior of the home.
In this particular case, the concrete design was a slab-on-grade, adjacent to the spread load footing, allowing us to open the footing along the inside wall, and to install the Water Trek.
Water Grabber, pump and discharge line installed then concrete is poured.
Discharge line, Freeze stop and Underground Discharge Extender (UDE) being installed.
